It of course doesn’t appear to be a senior moment at all. It looks like it was purposely coordinated to highlight strategic shifts towards support for Taiwan in both Japan and South Korea, and that the US is still proactive in Asia in spite of distractions in Europe.

It is not seen as a repudiation of the One China Policy, but as confirmation that One China is not an indication that China can use force to bring Taiwan more under its control.

The linked article joins several others about China’s economic slowdown, fears about capital flight from the country, and Apple’s efforts to diversify global supply chains away from China.

In other words, Taiwan is probably in a far more secure position than it has been in years. I’d say it is in no danger of aggression from China anytime soon.
