Thinking, has lamented several times recently that at one time politics in general was considered a noble profession. Politics produced the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. It produced the compromises that allowed the country to be created, and the compromises reconciling our melting pot of a country into the greatest nation in history, in terms of the ideals it sets out as goals, even if subject to deeply human shortcomings.

I think relearning the value of “compromise to achieve common goals, even if we disagree about how to get there” would go a long way to bringing us back.
